Youth Groups

Youth (grade 6-12) can sign up to participate in the youth group in the Narthex.  Adults who are willing to help out and would like to be included on the youth group mailing list should also leave contact information on the sign up forms.  The church will also be conducting a survey of the parish’s youth to help discern the best way to plan programming, worship and use of the Teen Center.  The schedule for the 2007-2008 youth programming will be finalized in October.

Ministry to Children and Youth

This is a special time to be a part of the Emmanuel family.  My meetings with parents, children and youth of the parish have been very helpful in beginning to discern the direction of Emmanuel’s ministry to children and youth.  From the meetings I have identified three goals for the coming months.

  1. Transparency: Creating a clear overview of Christian Education programming for members aged 0-18 and using resources (the Bell, the website, and email communication) to better communicate information about programming and events.
  2. Organization: generating accurate distribution lists for all ministries to children and youth.
  3. Scheduling: Schedule programming and events for the coming year that occur at regular times.

In addition to these goals, the coming year will see an evaluation of our current offerings to children and youth with special attention to how these ministries fulfill Emmanuel’s mission to welcome, worship, witness, and serve.  For instance, ministry to youth should be welcoming to parents and youth.  The youth group should provide teens with opportunities to worship in age-appropriate ways.  Youth programming should teach teens how to live as Christians in the world, witnessing their faith.  The youth group should also provide opportunities for youth to serve their community and the world.  The best way to fulfill the mission of the parish in each ministry to children and youth will be assessed in these terms over the coming year.

Garden Notes

Thank you so much to the faithful gardeners who have weeded and clipped over the summer:

Michelle Lambe, Margie Einstein, Jean Schembs, Rita Perkin, Joan Buckley, and any wonderful person who may have put in a few hours at other times than Monday mornings. It is so appreciated!!

Memorials to the garden have included a Windmill Palm and a Mediterranean Fan Palm placed at the north end of the Sunken Garden in loving memory of Jean and John Scott by Jean and Frank Schembs.

A variegated Pittosporum placed to the south of the east path into the Memorial Garden was given in thanksgiving for their friendship with The Rev. Frank Bancroft by Margie and Al Einstein.
